This home needed to tick a few of boxes for the owner. Firstly, it needed to be disability friendly. Secondly, it’s a passive house (passivhaus), and finally, it’s a gorgeous, luxurious home! Quite often form has to give in to function, or visa-versa, but not in this case. Every care was taken through the build with the client to ensure that every element that went into the home ticked all three of those requirements, ultimately ensuring the owner can enjoy this stunning, highly efficient home for many years to come

When selecting a builder, I interviewed the principals of three companies. I found Parry Pichelmann, from Pichelmann Custom Building was prepared to embrace new environmental technologies and materials. We learnt together how to incorporate them into my desire for a new modern, comfortable and yet functional home. This was not always easy. Through open, honest discussion and consultation there was always a flexible solution found. Parry was an ethical, respectful, transparent, thoughtful, and efficient, a prompt communicator, whether it be with quotes or billing cycles or variation to design.

I never set out to build an award winning house, nevertheless the house, in 2017 went on to win two Master Builders Association (MBA) and one Housing Industry Association (HIA) Awards in the ACT/NSW Southern Region. It then went on to win two National awards, the MBA’s, National Environment and Energy Efficiency Residential Building Award, and the HIA’s, Australian Specialised Housing Award. This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of all those at Pichelmann Custom Building.
